WELCOME TO  THE PROJECT MEETING IN LARISSA, GREECE (16-21 November 2009)

  

Town: Our town is Larissa with  200.000 people population. It’s in the Central Greece, quite near the two biggest cities of Greece: Athens, the capital city to the south and Thessaloniki to the north. It’s the commercial and economic centre of Central Greece.

6^th Geniko Lykeio is located in Larissa, Thessaly, a city in the central part of Greece. There are 450 students aged 16-18 and about 40 teachers working full-time.

Academic subjects are taught and also ICT-IT subjects through computer network. Emphasis is put on language subjects such as: Modern Greek, Ancient Greek, Latin, English, French and German.

 

The school is equipped with:

• a science lab
• an indoors gym
• an ICT lab
• a  data-based well organized library
• all departments are connected via  a LAN to Internet supplied with ADSL  lines
• a 300 – people – capacity auditorium, fully equipped with the latest technology audio-visual systems where lectures, meetings, videoconferences, theatrical performances, concerts, films projections are successfully contacted.

 

 

 Fully aware and sensitive to environmental and cultural issues we have teams involved in:

• recycling
• biological cultivation of plants in our school garden
• renewable sources of energy
• meteorological station
• theatre
• health issues
• school maintenance club
• film club

 

Participations to be mentioned:

• Programs conducted by the European Union such as
  • a) European Parliament Conference for teenage students (Euroscola), Strasbourg, France, 2004
  • b) MUN (Model United Nations) conference in Thessaloniki, Greece 2006 and 2008
  • Etwinning project between our school and Colegio Salesiano San Juan Bosco in Granada, Spain under the topic: “ The lack of water in our regions”, 2007-2008
  • Film producing, maths, physics, biology competitions with discriminations
  • School sports competitions as  a school team and individually with National, European and World discriminations
